The Plymouth Herald Business and Abercrombie Awards 2011
The Abercrombie Awards are awarded once every three years to projects involving
the development and improvement of Plymouth's Built Environment. There are
a total of seven awards, which are:
-
Best Public Space
-
Best Conversion or Conservation Project
-
Best Minor Development
-
Best Sustainable Development
-
Best Community Project
-
Best New Building
-
The Abercrombie Award, given to the best of the six winners above.
These awards are presented to the buildings themselves and the stakeholders
who conceived of the idea and drove it to its completion. The financers,
designers, surveyors and many other parties all contributed to make the
finished projects a reality, although as a Building Contractor we feel
proud that our work has been completed to the highest standards the City
has seen over the past three years.
We
received nominations in the Best Conservation Project Category
for two of our projects, the Devonport
Guildhall and the refurbishment of St Aubyn's
Church.
We also received nominations for the People of Plymouth Award,
voted for online at the Plymouth Herald Website for their favourite development.
Four
of our projects were nominated; Devonport
Guildhall,
St Aubyn's Church, Devonport Park Pavilion
and Mayflower Community School.
The Nominees were invited to a formal gala dinner and awards presentation
for the 2011 Plymouth Business and Abercrombie Awards, held at Boringdon
Golf Club and presented by Angela
Rippon OBE. The Plymouth
Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the evening along with the Plymouth
Herald.
Devon Contractors were thrilled that St Aubyn's Church won the Best Conservation
or Conversion Project, and that the Guildhall collected the People of Plymouth
Award. The Guildhall was also highly commended under the Best Conservation
or Conversion Project, whilst the client, the Real
Ideas Organisation were
awarded the Social Enterprise of the Year prize in the Business awards.
The Abercrombie Award itself went to St Aubyn's Church, which truly reflects
the outstanding calibre of the project.
