Restoration and Refurbishment of Aubyn's Church, Plymouth

awardThe Transformation of this Grade II listed Georgian Building was funded by the Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership. We worked closely with the partnership and the church authorities, local residents and Plymouth City Council to house a state of the art library and a new worship area for church services within a completely refurbished building.

Our construction work on this project and our involvement with the local community was rewarded by a Bronze National Site Award in the 2011 Considerate Constructors National Site Finals, held in April at the Plaisterers' Hall in London.

awardWe were thrilled to collect such a prestigious award, one of only a handful awarded nationally, and moreover to have completed this project in such a way as to postively impact the local community.

The Rev Dr David Nixon, Parish priest of St Aubyn's said:

"We are extremely pleased by the transformation of this building, and we will enjoy working with Devonport Library. We hope this marks a new beginning for the church in Devonport."

This pioneering community project also collected two out of seven 2011 Abercrombie Awards, which are presented every three years for projects in and around the Plymouth Area.

The church won the Best Conservation Project or Conversion category, and was award the coverted Abercrombie Award itself, given to the best of the six category winners.

The Church has a long and fascinating history, which is explained in detail on the Plymouth City Council’s website, here.
