Work Begins – Harrison Engineering Works – University of Exeter

We’re proud to share that Devon Contractors has now commenced work within the Harrison Building at the University of Exeter, delivering a key phase of the University’s forward-thinking Exeter Engineering 2030 initiative.

This exciting scheme will see the creation of:

???? A new Structure & Building Materials Applied Teaching Facility
???? Two state-of-the-art Electrical Engineering Labs
???? A highly serviced Chemical-Hydrogen Research Facility
???? A light refurbishment to improve the look and feel of shared areas across the Harrison Building

???? Nigel Whelan, Managing Director at Devon Contractors, commented:

“With many of our team having worked on the University of Exeter campuses for a number of years, we’re thrilled to be back supporting this fantastic institution. Working within the Harrison Building – a core part of the University’s engineering heritage – is especially meaningful. Education sits at the heart of our business; across Devon and the wider South West, we have delivered numerous school and university projects that have helped shape opportunities for future generations.  We’re incredibly proud to now be playing a role in the University’s Strategy 2030 vision.”

At Devon Contractors, education is more than just a sector, it’s a responsibility. From primary schools to advanced research facilities, we understand the importance of delivering environments that are inspiring, safe, and built to last.

Our involvement in this project also reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation. The Exeter Engineering 2030 vision is about driving world-class research and teaching through modern, future-proof infrastructure – values we fully align with as a contractor focused on legacy, low carbon solutions, and continuous improvement.

???? Mark John, Senior Building Surveyor, from the University of Exeter added:

“The Harrison Exeter Engineering 2030 project is crucial to ensure our teaching spaces continue to replicate industry standards to prepare our students for thriving future careers, and to create opportunities to widen our engineering expertise and the global impact of our research to support our Strategy 2030 ambitions of creating a greener, fairer and healthier world for everyone. We’re pleased to be working with Devon Contractors on our Streatham Campus and we look forward to seeing the new and refurbished, modern teaching spaces take shape.”

???? Works are now underway and due for completion in Autumn 2026.
